Careers in Regional & Rural Real Estate
A career in regional and rural real estate can be one of the most rewarding, enjoyable and long lasting professions a person can undertake.
Across regional and rural Australia real estate agencies are always looking for good people to join them. I often find there’s never a shortage of career opportunities but there’s always a shortage of good people!
So what does it take to be successful a real estate agent?
In my view a terrific attitude, willingness to learn, good listening skills and unwavering persistence are four essential traits that will see you succeed as a real estate agent.
Other personal traits that will help you succeed include;
- Good communication skills.
- Neat and tidy appearance.
How do I get started?
Pick up the phone and introduce yourself to your local real estate agency principal (generally they’d be delighted to talk to you). Confirm a time in the diary to meet with the principal, prepare questions for your meeting, turn up on time and you’re away!
This is how I got my start and eight years in – I love it!
Do I need formal qualifications?
You will need to sit an exam for a basic agents licence. In Victoria this is referred to as an ‘Agents Representative Licence’. Courses are conducted regularly across regional and rural Australia and in some instances you may qualify for Government assistance to fund your course.
Australian College of Professionals is one of many Registered Training Organisations (RTO’s) that conducts regular licencing courses around the country.
